Cami grew up in the Magic Valley area in Idaho. Music has been a large part of her life, and her love of music was fostered from a young age. Cami started piano lessons at age six and took part in various children’s choirs throughout her elementary years. Music has always played a significant role in her life. Listening to her mother sing her to sleep and playing the piano and singing with her sisters are some of her fondest memories.
She participated in band and choir through her middle school and high school years. She played various instruments but discovered her lifelong love for Jazz when she started signing with her school’s elite Jazz Choir her freshman year. She started playing piano with the Jazz Band her junior year of high school which gave her the opportunity to play with both a Dixie Band and a Saxophone Combo. Her senior year of high school led her to be a teacher’s aide conducting the Jazz Choir. She also started teaching private piano lessons to elementary aged students in her community. This is when she realized her love for teaching music and helping others to discover the joy of music for themselves. She graduated high school with Performing Arts Honors.
Cami majored in music and trained in classical voice. It was then that she came to love opera, and classical music. While at BYU-Idaho, Cami was able to study with many skilled professors who helped strengthen her passion and love for music. She continued to study piano and voice in private lessons, as well as dive deep into the world of music theory, music history, and more of the performing arts. She participated in Opera Scenes, and various choirs during her time there. She was able to do her internship for a semester with the Idaho Falls Children’s Choir. The two highlights of her university studies were singing at General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and starring in a singing flash mob in the commons area on campus.
While finishing her degree at BYU-Idaho, Cami met her husband Joe and had her first baby. They soon moved to St. Louis where Joe finished his college education. Cami finished the last two semesters of her degree online and graduated with a “Bachelors of Musical Studies” in 2013. Cami taught private lessons for four years in St. Louis, but then took a break from teaching when their family moved back to Idaho in 2016 to focus on their growing family. Cami now is a mama to five extraordinary children. She homeschools her children and loves the opportunity homeschooling gives for her to explore the world with her growing learners. Cami also has a successful sewing business making dolls, clothes, and teaching sewing lessons to young sewers. Since moving to the Pocatello area in 2017, Cami has studied voice privately with Diana Livingston Friedly at ISU and sang with the ISU Camarata Singers.
Cami loves being creative through many mediums and is a firm believer in the need for creating in each person's life. She has a strong belief that music and the humanities improves the life of all those who encounter it, and that music heals and brings beauty to the world. She enjoys exploring the many different forms and types of music. Cami loves being a part of the discovery of music in people of all ages and is excited to start teaching again to inspire that love in her students this year.
