Let’s Play Music-All students sing together and sign melodic cadence patterns. These patterns are common ways that the melody resolves to conclude a song.

Performed by All 3rd Year Graduates

Final Composition Project

In third year, during the Orange Roots semester, each student composes their own song. It is mind blowing that these 6-9 year-old students all have the skills to do this.

The Lion & Me: Hudson Anderson

Christmas Morning: Julia Anderson

Lady Bugs: Ella Bowman

The Jaguar Hunt: Xander Conover

Let’s Find the Root – The final semester of Let’s Play Music isn’t called Orange Roots for no reason. In this fun song, we learn what root position is and how to find root inversions and name chords.

Performed by All 3rd Year Graduates

Polyphemus' Island: Anderson Daniels

The Unicorn Family: Caitlin Ferrin

Christmas: Rebecca Gibson

The Ski Disaster: Daniel Hendricks

Best Friends: Claire Kirkham

Treble, Bass, Line and Space – This is such a fun way to learn note names on the staff. Listen to us sing four part harmony!

Performed by All 3rd Year Graduates

Ice Cream: Landon Kirkham

Sully & Boo: Tenley Larsen

Meeting My Friend: Harrison Lovell

Spring: Orlando Lovell

Thunder Panther: River McGregor

Our Bugs Are So Fun! – We are learning real note names and rhythm terms with this song.

Performed by All 3rd Year Graduates

Summertime: Kate Preston

Invisible Kitties: Carson Ralphs

A Sea Turtle's Life: Brienna Scovil

Painting Flowers: Amy Wertz

Pearl & Piranha: Aubrey Williams

Do, Re, Mi- This Let’s Play Music version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein tune teaches Solfege and reminds us the power of internalizing those notes to be able to sing most anything.  Listen as we sing two beautiful things at the same time - Harmony!

Performed by All 3rd Year Graduates

Why Orange Roots?

The Chinese Bamboo Tree grows up to 100 feet tall and is useful for many things including furniture, food, flooring, art, and construction. However its formative years can be deceptive. It starts as a tiny seedling and even under the closest and most careful nurturing care, remains that tiny seedling for up to 4 years. BUT THEN … In its fifth year, the bamboo tree sees exponential and record breaking growth of up to 90 feet in a single season! A closer inspection shows that during those first four years, that tiny seedling was developing an incredibly strong and complex root system, which enabled its later sky rising. Not only are we learning about the “roots” of chords in our Orange Roots semester, we are developing a strong root system of complete musicianship that will last a lifetime with additional music exposure and instruction. Progress is not always something you can see!

Thank You

Words cannot truly express the joy that I have had in teaching your children. It is my passion and privilege to be part of their lives. Thank you so much for your support at home! I know my efforts would be worth little without your daily encouragement to practice and have fun at home! Thank you for a wonderful year and for sticking with me during a world-wide pandemic! We made it!
